To Serve with Shopping Bags

Who knew the plastic shopping bags you throw away from Walmart or Target could be used for good?  My Alpha Phi Omega Brothers, a coed service fraternity, at the Eta Chapter from Northern Illinois University are doing something incredible.  They're collecting shopping bags from the community to make into durable sleeping mats for the area's homeless.

Not only is this a great way to recycle the bags, but the Brothers are helping support the area's homeless population by giving them mats to sleep on.  Improving the environment, offering a better night's sleep for some friends in need, and finding a way to serve in the name of Alpha Phi Omega - this is true service at it's best.

I am so proud to be an alumni of this wonderful organization and even more proud of my Brothers at Eta Chapter for such a great project.  Best of luck to them!

A Devotion To Serving Humanity

Hello Bloggers,

This is my very first post as a Blogger. My goal for this blog is to post and share the various information on the web about the nonprofit industry, volunteerism, and giving back. I want to show the world that you can work to give back to others, improve the community, and to serve humanity.

Service to others isn't something that goes without value. The services you provide to those in need are gifts - gifts that all deserving individuals are entitled to receive. When a child opens a gift during the holidays and shares a sudden and grateful smile that warms even the cruelest person's heart, that is the feeling of service. To Serve is To Love, and without our need to love, there would be no service to others - no gift to give.

So, as you read through the posts on this blog, remember that sharing a few hours a week, or devoting just a little bit of time or money, can definitely spread love throughout the world. Isn't that what we all need? A little more love? Give the gift - serve humanity.

To Serve with Love.
